It's the simple ideas that often work best, and a case in point is Fake Abbey D Handbags the brainchild of DC Colin Blyth of Ashington CID. He's given away 1,000 cat bells to attach to purses Silver Pendants Jewelry and handbags to deter purse dippers who have been plaguing the Ashington and Bedlington areas. The targets so far have been mainly elderly women but it's hoped the cat bell's tinkle will alert any victims if they are being "dipped" while doing their shopping.

On a busy Saturday the sound of cat bells at the supermarket checkout will sound like the jingle bells they used to put on horse drawn sleighs in days of old.
